Chipper

Chip (also known as Little Brown) was obtained from The Allen Vetenarian Hospital at the same time as Marble. He was the first to be adopted from a very large litter and was picked out and named by Lynelle. Chip - short for 'Chocolate Chip' was described as 'mostly bassett and miscellaneous hound'. We would never have believed it except that half the litter looked just like Chip and the other half looked exactly like little hounds. Chip showed his heritage quickly, however, howling all the way home in a very hound-like voice. In spite of his genes, Chipper was built more like an antelope with long legs and great jumping ability. One of our fondest memories is when his joy at our return home one day caused him to do a stiff-legged bound from the floor --- directly onto the dining room table!

Little Brown Although he was small, Chipper could be quite feisty. Shortly after Jonas arrived she made the mistake of approaching while Chip was eating which started some growling and snap, snap action. Afraid that Jonas was going to hurt Chipper - she was three times his size - Fred grabbed Jonas around the chest from behind and picked her up, thinking she was attacking Chip. Wrong! Little Mr. Feisty was the aggresser and came right along until his teeth slipped through her fur and he fell off.

Mr. Mr. has achieved his goal Mr. Mr. spent several years trying to snuggle up to Chip but with very slow progress. In the early days Chip would snap at him, but after several years Chip would simply get up and lay down elsewhere and then ultimately Mr. achieved his goal of companionship. In fact, in Chip's declining days he actually seemed to want the company and would allow such arrangements as this. Chip was Nancy's very special buddy and when he left us in January 1998 due to heart problems, he left a void way out of proportion to his size, particularly for Nancy.
