Buffy with Lynelle
Buffy was Nancy's birhday present the first year that Nancy and Fred were
married. She was a mostly Cocker Spaniel from Allens Vet Hospital in
Binghamton. We have many very happy memories and super 8's (remember those?)
of her but very few regular photos. She was a great little gal and tolerated
the fact that we both worked,
Fred in IBM and Nan teaching, thus leaving her alone during the day until
Lynelle came along.
She loved to dig for anything or nothing, frequently in the back yard, always
so rapidly that you would be sure she had smelled food in the ground. Never
did find anything, though.
Buffy was great with the kids and was never a discipline problem .
She adopted both children completely and became their protector. Although
very mild mannered and friendly most of the time, she would not allow any
strangers to come to the car if she and her charges were in it. To do so resulted
in snarls and snaps, the only times I remember her being snippy to anyone.
When Buffy was about 14 she became very senile and ceased to apparently recognize
or respond to her loved ones. We delayed, probably longer than we should have,
but parting with a family member is always tough.
