Fred
After Broome Tech (now known as BCC), Fred started at Ansco in Binghamton.
He soon moved to IBM Endicott in Quality Engineering, then to Test Engineering
and then to development in the Glendale Lab. In 1992 he took ITO1, better known
as get out before the roof caves in. At one time Fred was an avid golfer but
gave that up in the late 70s. Running, including a couple of marathons, karate,
bicycling, computers, gardening and reading were for years the favored recreations.
There has also been a bit of carpentry over the years.
Fred continues to study karate with Hidy Ochiai and bicycle (being in the South in the winter
is great!). Running cannot be a once every three weeks activity as it was becoming,
and after 36 years it finally ended in 2009. The ability to bike all winter had a
a lot to do with the reduced running and truth is, I'd rather ride then run.
Way too much time is still being
wasted on the computer because programming is still fun, and there's web site
maintenance (not this one, obviously) to be done. Gardening now consists mostly
of garlic & shallots because the deer leave them alone. On the plus side we have
about 2500 square feet more of grass across the creek where the animal food was
being grown. In 2007 Fred joined the Vestal Volunteer Emergency Squad to be an
ambulance driver and in the fall of 2008 became an EMT.
Oh, yeah. It looks like it may become necessary to start playing golf regularly
again, - the winter is spent between the front and back nines of a Florida golf course.
